Today we were up early to catch the 7:22 train to Geneva with Primo and Samuel
for the Auto Salon. It was crisp and cold (-3C) and foggy. By the time we got to
Geneva, the sun was out. I left the boys to the car show and hopped on my bike
for a little jaunt along the shores of Lac Leman. There was a pretty decent
cycle path but mostly in the shade so it remained bloody cold. Still, gorgeous
scenery and the lake looked like the sea thanks to the fog blotting out the
other side. There were some lovely little places en route, especially Hermance,
the last town in CH. The fortressed border brings back memories of the Cold War
and Berlin at its most tense and divided except that this particular wall is
made of air and so is invisible. Also no gun-toting guards, in fact no humans at
all, just a ragged deserted box. There isn't even a sign telling you you've
changed countries, just an inferior French sign telling you that the town you
are in is Chens-le-Pont.
Continued along lovely, empty backroads to Yvoire. If you don't know Yvoire,
you should! It's a small medieval village which is incredibly well preserved.
You'll see the whole thing in 30 mins. but it will definitely surprise &
delight you. A little gem of a place.
I strolled around and then hopped on my mean machine, returning the same way.
By now though, lovely bit of spring heat in the sun, making the return a pure
pleasure.
